Last month we refinished this beautiful Hevea 3 Block Parquet flooring in Rhiwbina, Cardiff, as well as continuing the pattern with new blocks into the customer’s new extension!

Hevea, also known as rubberwood, is a durable and highly stable wood, similar in density to oak. Its stability leads to it being resistant to warping, however, it does require correct sealing to ensure that it does not become damaged from pests or moisture

We recently refinished this engineered wood plank flooring in Llanover!  

With areas of discolouration from heavy use, scratches and looking generally ‘dull’ in appearance, we were able to bring these floors back to life with refinishing and treating with the very best wood care products  

Engineered wood is different to solid wood flooring, being made from several different layers, with the topmost layer being a solid wood veneer. This property in Oakdale, Blackwood had previously been flooded, resulting in extensive water damage to the Pitch Pine parquet flooring

The flood caused many of the parquet blocks to ‘cup’, where the edges of the wood lay higher than the middle, causing very uneven flooring, as well as dark patches and areas of entirely loose blocks  

Our first port of call was to re-lay the parquet where the pattern was missing. We then extensively sanded to reduce areas of warping and ensure a flat, smooth surface once again. Finally, we protected and perfected with premium wood care products to reveal the beautiful grain of the wood once more, as well as keeping it safe from further damage. This recent customer in Llantwit Fardre had lovely Oak Plank flooring in their conservatory that had been the victim of too much sun!

Whilst in pretty good physical condition, this customer had a rug down for several years and, once moved, noticed that the sun had bleached the surrounding flooring.

UV light from the sun can cause wood to lighten (or sometimes darken) over time – the original wood colour can be seen in the rug area!

To prevent this from happening, it is important to move rugs or floor coverings around periodically to allow the wood to be evenly exposed to light
